Making the case for a news industry ‘digital duty of care’

The Frontline Club today released its white paper, “Newsgathering Safety and the Welfare of Freelancers” on the same day that we see the Frontline Freelance Register launch. In the document, yours truly contributed the section on digital security on behalf of Rory Peck Trust. My bit joins a great roster of freelancers and industry people giving insight and suggested improvements for duty of care, safety training and insurance. Freelancers are what provide media an independent, diverse set of voices, often working with limited financial support or recourse for security. Supporting their work and safety benefits everyone.
