New Design for a New Year

The new D3 is roughly based on four WordPress themes
Time for a new look.Maybe it’s because I use reading glasses these days, but gone is the fine-print sized san serif typography that used to make up the bulk of the blog’s content. I took drew3ooo offline for most of December for a redesign. Consider this post to be the liner notes.
The vivacious layout, sparse use of color and elegant typography that make up this site’s sexy, sexy design are based on the stylish themes hanami and olulipo by A. Mignolo. The menu option at top called “Explore,” is based on the one used in the theme WPTypo by Chris Coyier. There are still some elements here left over from my modestly amended version of Modicus Remix, originally by ArtCulture. Modicus Remix, by and by, is a stripped-down take on the robust Modicus theme found at Upstart Blogger. This is how the web is built. I’ve kept general layout from that design, and have used the header stripe, but otherwise, the css and design structure is based on the Hamani theme, and the footer and some typographic elements were originally culled from Olipo, though doesn’t bare much in common with that one now. I became a big fan of Mignola’s design work in the last few months, and her work is well worth checking out.
I can’t promise older posts will all format correct with the new design, but the bulk of them work with it and a number of them seem to look better. I’ve gone for a serif style while keeping the same minimalist approach and sporadic bloody splotch of red. The new typefaces are more in line with my plan of making this blog look like those old radical lefty pamphlets from the turn of the century.
WordPress does a lot of heavy lifting, but if t wasn’t for the huge community of plugin developers extending it, the best darn open source CMS wouldn’t be what it is. Of note: Quotes Collection by By Srini G is offering up the “Worth Repeating” gems in the upper right corner. Cute Profiles (seen at left like a nice little Apple dock menu) by Tejaswini Deshpande and Sanjeev Mishra is one of the neatest ways I’ve seen to strut your social profiles, and reCAPTCHA Form by Gatt Design is a simple, no-fills but effective and spam resistant way to reach me.
I’ll be sharing and share-a-liking my D3 theme here as soon as I make a generic for-use version. The css file includes the complete accolades mentioned here. Any imperfections are due to my alterations of the above mentioned designers’ stunning work.
It is vital to remember that the powers that be, which now speak so fulsomely of the virtues of free voting, bitterly resisted at every turn the advance of democracy.
