theCity Exposed is my friend Mike Kepka’s photo column that appears on the San Francisco Chronicle’s website. The current theme is noir. Check out these images that remind me why SF is the best thing California has to offer the world and be sure to click the sound files as well.
Sadly amid these trying economic times, documentary photojournalism isn’t found at too many newspapers, often poised for sensational shots but showing little interest in showing the true nature of things. Too bad. Years ago, photographers like Weegee showed not only the crime and grit of places like Hell’s Kitchen, but also the lives of people as they strived to make ends meet.

Like the resource it seeks to protect, wildlife conservation must be dynamic, changing as conditions change, seeking always to become more effective.
