Do not concentrate on the finger
Our philosophical thought for the day comes from a recent email conversation I had with a former work colleague who has gone on to government work, thus creating all sorts of new time for himself for longer writing.
“In Enter the Dragon,” my friend writes, “Bruce Lee has a short chat with a lad about life. He states that life is like a finger pointing to the moon. The young lad looks at Bruce’s finger and gets a slap around the head which Bruce accompanies with the words ‘Do not concentrate on the finger or you will miss all that heavenly glory.’ It looks better on the screen, but you get my point. If we don’t dream then what is all that effort and work actually contributing towards.”

We must not confuse dissent with disloyalty. We must remember always that accusation is not proof, and that conviction depends upon evidence and due process of law. We will not walk in fear – one, of another. We will not be driven by fear into an age of un-reason, if we dig deep in our history and our doctrine, and remember that we are not descended from fearful men; Not from men who feared to write, to speak, to associate, and to defend causes that were – for the moment – unpopular.
