TED makes public its archive of smart people
Sir Ken Robinson makes an entertaining and profoundly moving case for creating an education system that nurtures (rather than undermines) creativity.
The TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) conferences held every other year, bring together interesting thinkers to share ideas on the present and future situation of just about everything. TED recently posted all its conference talks online, which has provided lots of diversion for yours truly. This one is from 2006 and one of my favorites.
It’s more difficult to get publications to focus on issues that are more critical. It’s never been easy, and I think in the last few years it’s gotten more difficult as society becomes more obsessed with entertainment, celebrity and fashion. Advertisers are tired of having their products displayed next to images of human tragedy; they feel that it somehow detracts from the salability of their products.

I’ve always loved this particular TEDTalk. JJ Abrams’ talk is also a lot of fun. Virgin America includes TED in their in-flight entertainment lineup, which is a great way to kill time on a flight. There’s an HD version of the TEDTalks podcast feed, too. Good stuff.
