Khadija
So this is who we’re currently calling “Khadija” for the lack of a better name. It’s farsi. Apparently country bumpkin girls are called that somewhere in the northern foothills. We like it, though.
Anyway, these fuzzy, loch ness quality pictures confirm earlier suspicions, little blue strip results and Magic 8-ball responses.
Updated: “Khadija,” or more often for cutesy sake “Little Khadija,” has been around for some odd weeks. Favorite pass times currently include batting her arms when the utrasound scan guy presses on Maryam’s stomach in the sort of the same way I do when I have to get up in the morning.
Maryam was were initially suspecting Khadija was lurking about during the hectic house-moving period when we weren’t sure if the tenets of the place we live now were actually going to move out of the place we were buying and whether we’d be living in a garage or not. Once boxes were all settled and we had a roof we went to find out.
Initially as a joke Maryam suggested calling her “Khadija,” which is (as Skip notes in comments) the first wife of Muhammad, but more notable in Iran these days is being the sort of name one gives a kid they want to call “Mabel” or “Ethel” or “Beatrice.” Anyway, it’s sort of stuck for the time being, which will be even more difficult to explain to family in Iran if she turns out to be a he.
More as the situation develops.

you randy bastard. congratulations to you both! julie and i are thrilled for you. according to wikipedia, khadija was the first wife of muhammad. when will we see you?
Yeah, so I’ve heard (about the historicial significance). It’s ironic to Maryam on levels us mere mortals can’t even fathom, but it’s sort of what the name has become as of late, which will be even better if she’s a he.
I’ll be in Oly by Friday. M joins later. We’re having a sunday afternoon bash on Sunday, the 16th, which you’ll get detials on.
Wow. Wow. Wow. Congrats, my friend. So happy for you and Maryam. See you soon in Oly,

[...] So last week the new and improved Rachel Corrie Foundation website went live in the wee hours of the morning before I hopped on British Air flight 48 and spent 12 hours, three glasses of Merlot and an in-flight viewing of The Transformers to get back to London, Maryam, and The Bump who will be “Jasper“.
