Friends,

Some of you may have already heard the exciting news, but if not, I wanted to make sure that you know. Yesterday, at approximately 12:00 noon, we managed to serve former Israeli military Chief of Staff, Moshe Yaalon with process papers charging him with war crimes and other human rights violations for the shelling of the UN compound in Qana in 1996. The case was filed in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia and the process papers were served to Yaalon yesterday as he was preparing to give a talk at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, where he is a fellow for a year. The case is being handled by the Center for Constitutional Rights in New York City.

You can read more at the Center For Constitutional Rights website.

Also, last week, the Center for Constitutional Rights, in conjunction with the Palestinian Center for Human Rights in Gaza, served former Israeli intelligence head Avi Dicter with process papers charging him with war crimes for his role in the 2002 bombing of the apartment building in Gaza that killed 15, 7 adults and 8 children, and wounded over 150 others. These are both exciting developments in the field of suing Israeli military officials with war crimes in US courts. In less than two weeks, two big Israeli figures have been charged. While these cases will drag on for a long time and will face many obstacles, including a Zionist effort to abolish the Alien Torts Claims Act (ATCA), which is the US law under which we can sue these war criminals in US courts, at the very least this should make Israeli military and political figures think twice before travelling to the US! This may have an impact on the efforts of the Zionist lobby AIPAC, which brings some of these people here to meet with Congress and US policy makers.
